Preachers Kid Soundtrack: A Review of the Songs and Score by Tim Miner

The Preacher's Wife: Original Soundtrack Album is the soundtrack to the 1996 film of the same name and features songs performed and produced by American singer Whitney Houston, who also stars in the film. The soundtrack was released on November 26, 1996, by Arista Records and BMG Entertainment. With sales of 6 million copies worldwide, it is the best-selling gospel album of all time.[2]

Prior to the album's release, music industry insiders had expected The Preacher's Wife soundtrack to "do at least as well as" Waiting to Exhale's soundtrack, which sold 5,100,000 copies in the United States.[20]

The lead single, "I Believe in You and Me" (a cover of The Four Tops classic), became a top five hit in the U.S.[21] and was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 40th Grammy Awards, where the soundtrack overall was nominated for Best R&B Album.[22]

Chart success of the soundtrack and its hit singles, "I Believe in You and Me" and "Step By Step", the singer further promoted the soundtrack album and singles touring across Asia, Australia, and two in North America. Known as the Pacific Rim Tour, Houston played shows in Japan, Thailand, Tawian, Australia and Hawaii. The setlist featured other tracks from the album, as well as duet performances of "Count On Me" and "In Return" with singer CeCe Winans at select shows in Japan.

The audio for 'Preacher's Kid' was a bit of a disappointment for me. I'm used to music-related releases sounding superb, and the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track found here just does its job, nothing more. The soundtrack has little restraint, firing on all cylinders through all channels, but it never truly has that pop, that wow that you get with the better music releases. Room dynamics and activity can be a bit questionable, but dialogue is always understandable, and co-mingles wonderfully with the other elements in the mix. Bass levels are soft, but an active complement, nonetheless. I just wish there would have been more "oomph," as it were, as I wanted to hear the gospel and soul music with a bit more power, strength, and conviction behind them. Instead, I have to settle for the fact that random scenes have a constant rustling in the background that was quite distracting.

When the singer-songwriter, who goes by the stage name Semler, started making covers of the Relient K and Switchfoot songs that comprised the soundtrack of their youth, they figured the project might find an extremely niche audience on the TikTok account they share with their wife, Elizabeth. Baldridge was stunned to encounter an outpouring of support and engagement from other folks who, like them, grew up with those bands and felt a desire to reclaim them from conservative Christian culture.

"The Identical" isn't all misses. Rayne is likable and has a solid singing voice. The soundtrack sounds enough like the Elvis catalogue to be familiar. The spiritual message is delivered clearly but is not heavy handed.

Besides the talents of Houston, the soundtrack also features the talents of Monica, Faith Evans, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill. Moreover, Cissy Houston and Shirley Caesar were also featured in the soundtrack.

While visiting Tori and Russ Taff at their home, hit singer-songwriter Ryan Stevenson recounts how the music Russ made with the Imperials was the soundtrack of his childhood. Together they swap stories, celebrate guidance in their lives and join their voices in a pair of their best-loved songs.

To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 17 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

Although the big news for most onlookers surrounding FIFA 23 might be the inclusion of fictional team AFC Richmond and their manager Ted Lasso, it's the soundtrack that has players interested, with invested series fans eager to learn which artists and tracks are in the game.

The official FIFA 23 soundtrack has been revealed, with artists such as Bad Bunny, Jack Harlow and Danger Mouse included. It's an exhaustive list of tracks, meaning no matter your taste in music there's bound to be a hit or two on there to meet everyone's expectations.

The FIFA 23 World Cup soundtrack has been confirmed too, honouring the ultimate FIFA songs of the past, including 40 songs from artists such as Blur and Kasabian, ahead of the mode's addition to the game before the big tournament kicks off in Qatar.

Some of the artists listed on the soundtrack have worked more closely with the game than ever, helping to design the special FIFA Ultimate Team kits. These have been available from 27th September in the game and you'll need to complete a series of objectives to get them.

Before deciding whether to go ahead with your own playlist or not, read on to find the complete list of songs in the FIFA 23 soundtrack and World Cup mode soundtrack, as well as details on how to listen to it outside of the game.

What was the best decade for movie soundtracks? You're probably going to be biased depending on when you grew up, but it's hard to argue with the '90s, which produced so many classics that still hold up three decades later (including the best-selling soundtrack of all time). These albums reflect the transition from the new wave pop of the 1980s to the alternative grunge sounds of the 1990s. And if you were a '90s kid, listening to any of them will bring you right back to your youth. From The Bodyguard to Batman Forever, here are some of the '90s movie soundtracks that left a lasting impression.

It wouldn't be a Quentin Tarantino movie without a memorable soundtrack. He didn't actually use a score for Pulp Fiction, but there's plenty of music throughout, and if you close your eyes and listen to these songs, you can picture the scenes they're attached to perfectly. Try it with Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man" or the Urge Overkill cover of Neil Diamond's "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon."

There aren't many songs on the Titanic soundtrack. For the most part, the three-hour-plus film sonically features little more than a fittingly epic score by James Horner. But it doesn't need more than one lyrical track: "My Heart Will Go On" performed by Celine Dion. The song was truly omnipresent in the '90s. It ended up selling an incredible 18 million copies, making it the second best-selling single by a female artist of all time. (Spoiler alert: The first is also on this list.)

Grunge was big in the '90s, and few films captured that sound and accompanying aesthetic more accurately than Reality Bites. The soundtrack was a bit more eclectic, including grunge bands like Dinosaur Jr. but also Lenny Kravitz, U2, and Crowded House. But the song everyone remembers from the film is Lisa Loeb's "Stay (I Missed You)."

Baz Luhrmann's films are often remembered for their soundtracks, and the decadent Romeo + Juliet is no exception. For his modern take on William Shakespeare's tragic romance, he turned to a bunch of musicians that wouldn't exactly have fit in in the 1300s, when the original play was set. The love theme from the movie, Des'ree's "Kissing You," is guaranteed to make any '90s listener weep.

You couldn't have a soundtrack to a movie called Pretty Woman without including the Roy Orbison song "Oh, Pretty Woman." But the soundtrack for this adult Cinderella story has more contemporary music as well, including tracks from artists like Natalie Cole and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Is there a more quintessential '90s soundtrack than the one for Clueless? You could make an argument for most of the albums on this list, but Clueless defined teen culture for the decade, and the soundtrack is equally reflective of the time. The Muffs' cover of "Kids in America," which opens the film and the album, feels like the perfect encapsulation of the era. And who could forget Coolio's "Rollin' With My Homies"? Certainly not Tai!

The movie may not have aged well, but the soundtrack still holds up. Batman Forever was something of a tough sell, moving from the dark Tim Burton vibe of Batman Returns to director Joel Schumacher's much more cartoonish take on the Caped Crusader. The soundtrack only has five songs that actually appeared in the movie, but it produced two big hits: U2's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" and Seal's "Kiss from a Rose."

The 1990s were a renaissance for teen movies, but Cruel Intentions stands out as the darkest and sexiest. Many young minds were corrupted by this steamy update of Dangerous Liaisons. The soundtrack is appropriately mature, with more adult offerings than the typical teen flick, including Placebo's "Every You Every Me," Blur's "Coffee and TV," and The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony," used to great effect in the film.

There are too many inspirational teacher movies to count, but Dangerous Minds stood out for a couple reasons. First, it starred Michelle Pfeiffer as former Marine-turned-teacher LouAnne Johnson. And second, it had a really, really good soundtrack, which ended up hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Major credit is due to the opening track, "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio, which was 1995's top-selling single of the year.

Few movies capture the feeling of high school ending the way that Can't Hardly Wait does, and if you graduated in the '90s, the soundtrack will give you the exact same nostalgic feeling. Songs like "Graduate" by Third Eye Blind and "Dammit" by Blink-182 bring you right back to that place. Also, the Smash Mouth cover of "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" remains essential.

There's an all-new cast, new hip-hopped, country-fried, crunked-up soundtrack tunes, and a couple of minor embellishments, like changing the location from Oklahoma to Georgia. But the characters, the scenes, the dancing, even much of the dialogue-they're all plugged into a rigidly prefabricated storyline that treats its 1984 predecessor more as holy writ instead of perishable Reagan-era cheese. In case you're unfamiliar with the premise, it's about a small town where over-zealous city fathers ban lascivious dancing after a car full of tipsy teens perish on the way home from an event where the music was blaring, the bodies were shaking and the beer was flowing. 2ff7e9595c
